What We Do

One specialized job, done right

Smart Roof Vac focuses on a single specialty: getting all the rock off a ballasted or built-up roof, whatever the reason it needs to come off.

Ballasted Roof Rock Removal

Loose stone ballast vacuumed off single-ply and other ballasted membrane systems.

Built-Up Roof (BUR) Rock Removal

Gravel embedded in a BUR cap sheet cleared for tear-off, recover, or inspection.

Reroof & Recover Prep

A clear membrane so roofing crews can inspect and install without clearing rock by hand first.

Repair & Inspection Access

Rock cleared from a specific section so leak repairs or membrane inspection can get straight to the surface.

Why It Matters

What rock removal is actually for

Reroof Prep

Crews need a bare membrane, deck, and insulation visible before a new roof system goes on.

Membrane Inspection

Ballast and gravel hide leaks and wear until the surface underneath is exposed.

Faster Timelines

Vacuum removal clears a roof far faster than a crew doing it by hand, keeping the rest of the project on schedule.

Common Questions

Things people ask before reaching out

What's the difference between a ballasted and a built-up roof?+
A ballasted roof uses loose stone laid over a single-ply membrane to hold it in place. A built-up roof (BUR) is layers of bitumen and reinforcing fabric, often topped with gravel embedded in a flood coat. Both end up with rock on the surface, and both fall within what Smart Roof Vac removes.
Why does the rock need to come off before a reroof?+
A roofing crew needs to see the bare membrane, insulation, and deck to inspect condition and install a new system. Rock has to be cleared first, and doing that by hand is slow.
Does the vacuum process damage the membrane?+
Vacuum removal is used specifically to reduce the manual raking and shoveling that puts the membrane at risk of tears and punctures.
What states do you cover?+
Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Kansas.
Do you haul the rock away?+
Yes, once it's removed from the roof it's hauled off site.
